on an Takisawa EX-108 Lathe
It has been a couple of years since we mounted the three jaw on the the lathe and now I need to change the signal that tell the control that the chuck is closed. In my manual we have penciled in that M88 and M89 does this under MID. I have tried it with the parameter write bit switched on and off. I do not have the Fanuc 21i parameter manual. I did not know one existed until yesterday and we can't get it here quick enough. There is no manual switch to change as some have suggested. I did this a couple of times when we first got the lathe but I am stumped now. We are way behind on the job that we had promiced on monday.
Thank you

Purchsed a vacuum pump off EBay several months ago and never really got around to checking it out. discovered it's a 50 Hz motor and need to convert to 60Hz. Is there a inexpensive converter on the market that will convert 60 Hz to 50Hz in the 220v 3 phase range.
Thanks,

Hi all,
Great to find a forum like this, and I apologise in advance if a fire off a few stupid questions as I go! I'm new to the world of CNC but getting hold of a table would help me out a lot at work and I really need a bit of guidance as to the best budget machine for starters.
One of my problems (of which I have many!), is that I'm in the UK, and I really haven't found anything here that would come close to the sort of equipment the US is blessed with.
I've been looking at PlasmaCAM, PracticalCNC, Dynatorch and Torchmate. I'm leaning toward the PlasmaCAM unit, but I'm ready to take on board some experienced advice.
I'm pretty sure I want X-axis control facility, and it would be nice to be able to swap out plasma for a router (something I believe the PlasmaCAM doesn't do). I guess I'm still at the stage where I need a checklist of criteria to compare products.
Bear in mind we are talking the budget end of the market, but I'm definitely not just going to go for the cheapest.
Any thoughts gratefully received!

Will 100' 14 Ga. extension cord plus 50' of 12 Ga. extension cord supply adequate power for this 4 hp chainsaw?
Or is there a better configuration in gauge?
I will also consider a 3.5 hp, but I would prefer the above saw.
I was advised the 2 extension cords configuration "MIGHT" work per the Poulan rep. He wasn't certain and I can't buy this chainsaw until I am.
I have to be able to use it minimally 150' from the power supply or I'll have to buy a gas powered chainsaw.
I'm trying not to disturb my neighbors.
Thanks

I'd love to surprise him with some. Can you fellas please recommend some tools. Otherwise I'll be buying something that will be returned the following week. Yikes! Please take a second to help me out.

1. Please inform what all factors influence the surface finish on the job.
2. Please explain clearly the procedure for axis drive optimisation for above. There is a deviation of axis( 10 micron)when a dial is put on the m/c and the axes are in position control loop. what are the parameters to be adjusted for proper optimisation?

I need to know how to get to the history page showing what buttons have been pushed. With having to learn maintenance at my new job it gets annoying when a machine crashes because it was put into metric. i think the machines have a fanuc 16 or 18t controller, and holding people accountable for their mistakes is a priority.

I am designing 2 Hydraulic fixtures for a 630mm horizontal machining center and one of the requirements is that it has a pressure monitoring system that will shut the machine down if it has a sudden loss of pressure. The pallets will not be plumbed or wired directly so I need a wireless system that will send out a signal to shut down the machine in case of emergency or interrupt a circut that will cause an error.
Has anyone used anything like this or know a good resource to find it?
I found a unit made by Vektor, but it must be within 8" of the receiver and is not a constant pressure monitor.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Turrent extends then indexes but upon retracting it doesnt reach turrent signal prox. It is a hydraulic driven motor and cylinder in same housing. There is a flow control when adjusted turrent retracts to make turrent signal prox but it is not consistant which leads to the same alarm. I do hear suction as if there is air in the line which leads me to believe the problem could be with the directional valve or inside the housing with the cylinder. This is an older machine but new to our facility which we have no spare parts for. We are begining to troubleshoot the problem by replacing the directional valve first, but there is a two week wait for the part to come in and the machine is down. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.THE MACHINE BUILDER IS DAINICHI.we are receiving dirtional valve and replacing hoses on 8 - 27 . will update with results perhaps somone els may benifit from documentation. END RESULT WE PLACED TOOLS EVENLY AROUND TURRENT TO DISTRIBUTE THE WEIGHT (SHOT IN THE DARK) . MACHINE STARTED TO WORK WITHOUT FAILURE. DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS WORKED AND DON'T TRUST IT TO BE A PERMANENT FIX .BUT CONTENT THAT IT'S UP AND RUNNING PRODUCTION. SUGGESTION CAME FROM FANUC TECH.

I have been gathering info for a new CNC purchase. I started out with the idea of retrofitting my knee mill to 3 axis but after searching diferent forums I have concluded that a Fadal TRM mill or a Haas TM-1 bed style mills would be a much better choice and at a comparable cost. Last known price that I can find for a base unit Fadal TRM is $20,000 http://www.ipnews.com/archives/westec/m … al_trm.htm and the price for a Haas TM- 1 base unit is $22000 http://www.haascnc.com/VMC_PRICE_TM.asp#toolroom .There is alot of Haas TM 1 owners out there but I have not found any Fadal owners. Does any one have any experience with the Fadal TRM or the control? I am somewhat new to cnc milling (currently have a manual mill & cnc plasma machine) so I need a user friendly easy to learn control. I have a small 2 man shop and we need the machine for proto type and low production use. Both these machines are at the upper limits of our budget so before pulling the trigger on a purchase I hoped to gather more info on the Fadal. It seems that Haas has much more after sale support availible than Fadal which is also very important to me. Thanks for any feedback you might have to offer! What is the best machine to buy???

I have a old mansfort lathe in which i need to do threading with higher pitch values(18.5mm). the maximum cutting feedrate is 2300mm/min in the fanuc oit series system. which restrict me from going to high cutting parameters. the max rapid of the machine is 10000mm/min. so how much can i increase the cutting feedrate to reduce the cycle time. now rpm value in only 116.

I am trying to download Hurco conversational programs to my laptop. The floppy drive does not work.
We replaced the floppy drive but still doen't work. Hurco thinks it's something on the motherboard. My company won't go for a new motherboard. I just want to back-up the conversational programs stored on the machine's hard drive. I don't need to edit or view them, simply bak them up. Tried several free trial DNC programs, they all say they can do it . So far none have worked. The NC programs go in and out no problem. Any Suggestions.

Hi everybody,
My question is about cutting an internal thread on a CNC lathe using a tap, while I did that many times on a milling machine (calculating the feedrate is no big deal and G84 command reverses the spidle rotation automatically at the end of the cut), my question is, does that apply on a CNC lathe also? Which G code would that be?
I noticed that lathe threading tools are special tools that look like a normal turning tool (or a boring bar in case of internal threading), is it possible to cut threads on a CNC lathe using a tap?
I have a spring-loaded tool that I usually use on the milling machine and I found a way to hold it on the lathe turret.
The thread I am trying to cut is an M8, 30mm deep into grade 1010 steel
Thanks
Sam.

Company I work for is in the market to by additional CNC equipment. We have Mitsubishi RA90 EDM which proved to be not very reliable. No I picked Charmilles Robofil 440cc. We are cutting aluminum and test cuts seems very promissing in redusing the cut time on those parts. Personally only met people who had to say good about this machine. just wonder if other opinions egxist.
Regarding SMW. Currently our Mori Seiki lathes are equiped with LNS barfeeders. For new machine re-seller is offering SMW Spacesaver 2300 100% electric barfeeder and and Ultimate Chuck with fast jaw changeover from the same SMW systems. If anybody have ANY experience or opinion about following equipment feedback would be appreciated. Thanks,

First off, pardon my ignorance if this forum is inapproprite for my enquiry. I have been looking around for a business I can buy and own. It recently came to my attention that a CNC Machining/Fabrication business in my area is up for sale. My experience with machine tools was over 20 years ago as a lathe and milling machine operator during summer internship while in college. I graduated college with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and also worked as an engineer for 15 years. I have a good understanding of things mechanical.
I'm wanting to have my independence through business ownership and wonder if buying a CNC Machining/Fabrication business is currently a good idea in the US, considering a lot of manufacturing that used to be done domestically had been outsourced overseas.
Looking forward to your insight to my enquiry

I'm just a hobbyist - mostly model airplanes. I've got a good drill press with which I've tried to drill the exact center of a 1/2" fiberglass dowel so as to eventually shape it into a true running propeller spinner. Well, I've gone through a lot of material and have never achieved even near-perfection. I suppose I really need a lathe, but that's down the pike a bit.
Does anyone know how to do this - some sort of jig perhaps? I'd very much appreciate your input.

I'm running a garage outfit producing board games. We're looking at producing a game that has a grid-like pattern routed into a 1" thick 12" x 12" playing board. I need some sort of machine that will allow me to produce this pattern consistently.
I also need a piece of used equipment, as shelling out $2k for a desktop CNC router is beyond my budget right now.
This item here looked interesting (especially for the price), but I'm not sure what else it needed: http://www.cnczone.com/classifieds/show … 1096658554
Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

Help
Have the above machine with Fanuc o control
but i cant hold anything internally. Alarms out
Theres no switch on the control (internal/external gripping)
plus nothing in the (oppanl) soft key to switch gripping.
I was wondering if there is a Parameter to activate the (oppanl) option.
The only other way i can think of is reverse the solinoid cables.

I'm boring a 1 inch bore about 1 inch deep and the beginning of the bore, where the tool first enters the work piece, is .0004" to .0008" smaller than the "bottom" of the bore. Our piece is held horizontally and we are using a single point tool with a PCD insert. Any suggestions on cause and correction would be appreciated.

I was wondering if anyone has any idea’s on what would cause taper in threads? I have a application that is run on a MT4 170 kitako that has taper in the threads. I have replaced the thread bar, the sleeve that it goes in, checked the backlash in both x and z, replaced the encoder for the spindles, rewrote the program and put more passes in( it usually only has 4 passes using G32 command)( I have also used another program using the G92 canned cycle command), put a spring pass in, checked the gibbs and ballscrew and re-squared the gang tooling blocks, checked the tool to make sure it was cutting on center, and switched tool blocks between machines. These are internal threads that are cut to a diameter of 1.1812 and the minor diameter is cut to 1.123. The taper is going from big at the start of the cut to small at the end with only a .650 depth. There is up to .008 taper. The pitch and minor diameter stays true but the overall diameter is what is varying. The machine was recently rebuilt form the bed up. If you have any idea’s other than what I have tried it would be greatly appreciated

The machine I run is a Mikkno A55. Im new to set up. This is probably pretty basic for most of you. Ive been having trouble with different diameters in when ,I use the marpos gauge .The tolerance is 0.9845 to 0.9837 for that bore. I'll get a good reading , like 0.9841, pull the gauge out and try it again and the reading is 0.9847 or 0.9835. I've checked the gauge out ,air lines ,calabation, the master ring there o.k. So, I do the checks like wipe out the spindle check coolant consintration %, check the flow of coolant to the tool. Run another set of parts and they still gauges the same. At this point , I change the tool and gauge the part still having problems. The tool is a 0.9841 boring bar. Could this problem be caused by tool pressure.

USING 5" FLY CUTTER, .002 DEPTH OF CUT ON 6061-T6 ALUM. USING COOLANT, I NOTICE FRETTING ON THE
SURFACE.(SPOTTING WHICH LOOKS LIKE WATER SPOTS WHEN YOU AIR BLOW PARTS OFF WHEN YOU CLEAN
THEM.) THE SPOTTING SHOWS UP MORE PRONOUNCED AFTER PLATING. ANODIZE,IRRDITE
WE HAVE CHECKED THE COOLANT,WE NOW USE FILTERED WATER WE EVEN CHANGED THE MAKER OF THE
ALUM. THE ONLY WAY WE COULD GET RID OF THE SPOTTING WAS TO TUMBLE THE PARTS WHICH NICKS
THE EDGES OR USE EMERY PAPER ,WHICH DEFEATS THE REASON FOR THE FLY CUT FINNISH (32 FINNISH)

Has anybody had any experience with these tool holders that have "through spindle coolant" feature? It is a tool holder that has a collar around it and when it tool changes the line off of the side of it plugs into a line that is ran down the side of the machine if I am correct. That is my understanding of it anyway.
The reason I am looking at going this route is that my machine may not be compatible with the typical through spindle coolant.
Any help would be great.
Thanks, Jon

Running a Daewoo 5000 DHP horizontal mill with 18i funuc contol. Tapping 1.187-12 thead using standard straight tap (have tied several taps) in floater driver theads look double theaded on both sides. Using G95 feed per revolution, driver doesn't seem to pull out or push in. I beileve G98 or G99 should't effect the tap in or retract? Hole size seens ok 1.109, tapping 316 stainless (material seens ok but not tested).

I am new to machining and was hoping those with experience can help. I am buying two HSD e905 Spindles to go with my dual head CNC router. I need to buy some er32 collets and I have found some by USST, Lyndex and ERUSA. USST seems to be the least expensive.
Is there a quality difference between manufacturers that I should be aware of?
I am debating whether to buy a full collet set or just piecemeal my collection over time - any feedback?
Thanks

I have a Clausing Colchester 15 Triumph Lathe that seems noisy when operating. Starting and running the main motor is very quiet. Then when the lathe is engaged for turning it seems to make excessive noise. That is when compared to a larger Clausing Colchester Lathe of the same vintage. The noise is consistent during long periods of turning. The pitch of the noise varies a bit with spindle speed. I suspect bad spindle bearings. Any ideas on the source of the noise? How can I find out if the spindle bearings are bad? Thanks Mike.
